about

The dog who feared the moon (or the album to play along with)

This album is a collection of guitar based songs recorded between January and May of 2023 and as such represent the conclusion of my return to guitar playing that started during the pandemic.

A serendipitous encounter, again set me on the path of becoming a kind of ‘guitar tone seeker’, inspired by a wide variety of established and new guitarists from whom I took many ideas and much inspiration to reach my own personal guitar tone. Not only the most ambient-ish guitarists we can think of, but also what I call the ‘Canadian lineage’ of guitar tone maestros: from Neil Young and Daniel Lanois to some more contemporary or traditional guitarists as Joey Landreth and Ariel Posen from whom I learned the importance of tone and color in guitar. Something that I was never really aware of during my years of a more experimental approach to this instrument.

Tone and colour play a really important role when it comes to conveying a feeling through music. I worked for many months to chase my own sound, testing pedal combinations and miking techniques. (However, no fancy guitars, pedals, mics and amp were used in these recordings: a Firebird non Reverse that I built with my own hands, a cheap Mooer tube amp head plugged into a dusty cabinet speaker, a dynamic MXL dual capsule mic and a Behringer replica of Senheiser 906 plus Argentinian boutique pedals)

Born from improvisation, these melancholic songs are reduced down to the bare-bones, just as if they were somehow waiting to be completed by someone else. Based on this concept, I imagined it would be a great idea to invite listeners to play along with these songs; hence my including the song’s key as part of the title.

So, feel free if you like the tunes to jam along with, even if you want to overdub a new part and send it over to me, it will be more than a pleasure to give it a listen.
